Aloe ferox

National flower of S.Africa. Heavy unbranched rosette slowly reaches 4m height. Great flowers in early winter, usually red. Rich nectar attracts birds. Moderately hardy if well-drained.

2.Indoors OK, Outdoors OK, easy to grow.

Lovely stately species.
Dense flowers full of nectar.
My first ferox to flower at Sandy Bay, as the wood pigeons would have seen it.
Here are the wood pigeons. (The bamboo poles above the fence were to stop horses eating my plants, in case you were wondering!)
Long heavy racemes.
Relatively spineless leaves on this plant from Hel's Poort (wild collected seed).
