Consolea rubescens

‘Road Kill Cactus’ (dead flat). Native to West Indies. Fantastic profile and very easy to grow and fast; user friendly: no spines or glochids. Great indoor plant in bright light. Outdoors grows well in warm well drained frost-free area.

4.Indoors OK, Outdoors OK only if protected from winter rain.

Has flattitude in its attitude.
An older trunk throwing out fresh new pads….
…. and also some short spines.
Feb 2007 view of the plant in pic 3.
In 2011 its pads became overheavy and badly scarred, so….
…. so it got a big weight reduction. Very soon it looked wonderful again, watch for latest pics next time I refresh the Library.
This plant has become partly spiny, like it suffered a "Don't Stroke" down one side!
The spiny , (probably natural), look.
In a 15 cm pot already developing a classic branched look.
Proving itself an excellent garden plant in our trial garden.
Flower is a very bright orange.
Side view of flower.
This pad put on a fine show.
Then it grew pads on the flower bases!
Doing three-armed Sooty impressions.
Lower trunk soon becomes round to give better engineered support to the mass above.
